At 16 years old, TruLuv Monique-Theodocia Hoffmeister-Haynes had her life tragically ended after being hit by a car on her electric scooter in Ridgecrest, California. She was a brilliant young girl who cared deeply about those she loved most and loved more than many. She was a passionate baker who cherished watching others enjoy her desserts. She was a lover of animals and was known to stand up for the underdog in any situation.
TruLuv was a force to be reckoned with, embodying a spirit of resilience, gratitude and righteousness. This soul was born with a purpose to bring about light in dark places, struggling with her own darkness in her early teen years. Obviously deeply aware of the harsher realities of life, this sweet child dealt with mental health issues and used her own challenges to advocate for others in the same situation. She did not let this stop her though, reflecting in her journal on how grateful she was for life, for breath and for her mom.
After her heartbreaking death, TruLuv's life has continued to impact the community she called home. Her mother, Tiana Logan, took a stand against the dark road her daughter was slain upon and demanded that the city install street lights and a stop sign to prevent the unnecessary death of anyone else. In less than 2 months after the accident and in honor of her daughters life, Tiana succeeded. TruLuv will continue to shine her light of protection. As unfortunate as the end of her physical story is, there is a profound beauty found in her time on Earth.
For Give Thanks Soap, we were completely overwhelmed with sadness and grief from this loss. Watching her mother raise funds to cover her child's funeral costs, we were quickly inspired to find a way to help families facing hardship. So many find themselves in front of nearly impossible plans to make, like the funerals of their children and closest family members, and do not have the funds to cover the costs. We decided to create The TruLuv Give Back Bar in honor of this humans life and impact. It is our way to give back and share the gratitude we hold close for everything and everyone we do have. There is so much to be thankful for including the souls we have the opportunity to spend our time with on Earth, no matter the length of time.
